If you are enrolled in an Affordable Care Act-compliant health insurance plan, there are plenty of free services included with your plan. All health insurance plans are required to cover your annual wellness exam free of charge. Other free preventative services include the women’s wellness exam, immunizations, vaccinations, pap smear, cholesterol screening, depression screening, breast cancer screening (for women over the age of 40), and colon cancer screenings/colonoscopies (at over the age of 50).

All health insurance plans include additional free member perks. Many insurance carriers offer free telemedicine visits with partners such as Teladoc, Babylon, and LiveHealthOnline while Oscar & Kaiser both offer their own free telemedicine service. There are also member discounts offered from most insurance carriers for gym memberships, wearable fitness gadgets (FitBit, Garmin), healthy living habit programs, and other free or discounted member perks.

COVID-19 Coverage Updates:

In 2022, all health insurance plans are covering COVID-19 testing free of charge if you have symptoms or if it is recommended by a doctor; however, not all carriers are covering COVID-19 testing if required for work. In addition, in the past, all the health insurance carriers were covering the full cost of treatment if you were diagnosed with COVID-19, that is no longer the case. Now, if you are diagnosed with COVID-19, you will have to pay the member cost-share at the rates illustrated in your plan’s benefits.
