By now, you should have received your 2021 health insurance subscriber ID card. Be sure you register your insurance card online, which allows you to easily find doctors who are in your health plan’s network, review your benefits, view your claim history and make your monthly payments.
First, make sure to discard any old subscriber ID cards from your wallet to avoid any confusion with your healthcare providers on which insurance card to use. Once you have your subscriber ID or medical record number, you can register online to view your ID card, set up payments, view claims, find providers, use telemedicine services (doctors on call), and even find discounts for a variety of health & wellness products. Below find for each individual health plan carrier the registration link.
Member portal registration links
Blue Shield
Kaiser
Oscar
Health Net
LA Care
Molina Care Anthem
You can also download mobile apps from each carrier by going to your phone’s app store and searching for your insurer. Oscar tracks its members’ footsteps from the mobile app and will reward their members $1 per day in Amazon gift cards for each day they reach a step goal ( up to $ 100 annual). You can also view your ID card from the mobile app which can come in handy if you ever lose your physical ID card, see your claims history or connect to a dedicated doctor on call.
Especially Blue Shield policyholders need to make sure to use their new id numbers as BlueShield have changed in 2021 their pharmacy claims processing vendor from SS&C to CVS Health. The pharmacist needs the new BIN & PCN information on your id card to submit your pharmacy claim to CVS Health for claims processing in 2021.
Each carrier offers its members additional benefits on top of their health insurance. For example, you may get free or low-cost doctors on call. Blue Shield’s members are offered Teladoc telemedicine services at a $5 copay while Oscar and Kaiser have doctors on call for free. Oscar also assigns each of its members four care guides, one of which is a nurse, to guide their members to the right providers. Being able to speak with a doctor on call and get basic prescriptions for common illnesses can save you money by avoiding an office visit copay as well as transportation costs, plus you can do it from the comfort of your home when you are not feeling healthy enough to travel to a doctor’s office.
Blue Shield & Kaiser both offer their members discounts for participating providers in alternative medicine, gym memberships, FitBits, and other health and wellness services & products through the Choose Healthy program. You must register online directly to Choose Healthy to take advantage of the discounts. For massage therapy and chiropractor discounts, you must use a participating provider.
Blue Shield and Health Net offer its PPO members access to Heal which offers at-home appointments with licensed doctors at your plan’s standard copay rates for most plans. Heal services offer can have preventative care, pediatric care, urgent care and primary care providers to your door usually within 2 hours, 365 days a week from 8 AM to 8 PM. Even if your insurance carrier does not offer this kind of service. You can get a Heal doctor in your home for $ 159, see https://heal.com/pricing/ . For example this might be a good option if your telemedicine doctor recommends seeing a doctor and you feel just to sick to leave the house.
